Training Requirements

The primary emphasis of the Cummins Cal Pacific Training Center is to provide technician training for Cummins authorized warranty service locations in southern CA. Our scheduled course offerings are designed for technicians at these locations to become warranty authorized to perform Cummins warranty and non-warranty service work.

In addition, the training center also offers familiarization courses on a broad range of Cummins engines, both mechanical and electronic. These courses are available through special request and are subject to resource and lead-time requirements.

Cummins Cal Pacific on highway dealers will be qualified by individual engine families . In order for a dealer to obtain Cummins Factory Certification, they will be required to have at least one technician who has successfully completed all required classes for a specific engine family i.e. Insite 6.5, BETT, ISB/ISB EGR, ISC/ISL, Heavy Duty. Industrial and marine certifications are customized for the individual dealer, and may necessitate travel to locations outside of southern CA where selected courses are offered.

Following are the qualification requirements for individual engine certifications.

ISB/ISB EGR Engines Automotive (On Highway):
1. BETT
2. Insite 6.x
3. ISB CM550 Qualification
4. ISB CM850 EGR Qualification
5. ISB CM2150 2007 Engine Qualification

ISC/ISL Engines Automotive (On Highway):

1. BETT
2. Insite 6.x
3. ISC/ISL CM850 Qualification
4. ISC/ISL CM 2150 2007 Engine Qualification

ISM/ISX EGR Engines Automotive (On Highway):

1. BETT
2. Insite 6.x
3. ISM Engine Qualification, (Cummins Virtual College only)
4. ISM/ISX CM570 Features & Controls
5. ISX CM870 EGR Qualification
6. ISM CM876 2007 Engine Qualification
7. ISX CM 871 2007 Engine Qualification

Recommended classes for technicians new to Cummins engines include Operations and Maintenance, Insite 6.x, BETT (Basic Electronic Theory & Troubleshooting), and Electronic Features & Controls. After successful completion of the previously mentioned courses the technician can proceed to complete the remaining classes required to obtain Cummins certification for either Mid-Range, or Heavy Duty engines.

Each student will be required to complete the CD ROM training prior to attending the “hands on” qualification class. Successful completion of both CD ROM, and “hands on” qualification will be required before a technician can obtain 2007 product certification. If a technician cannot pass the test after three tries, the CD-ROM automatically resets and forces the technician to start over in covering the material presented in the CD-ROM study Program.

It is quite possible that a technician may return to his workplace after a week of training without earning his qualification. In this event, the technician must return to another class or otherwise successfully complete the CD-ROM training before certification will be granted. If the technician elects to return to Cal Pacific’s training center to re-take the class, he will not be charged tuition. This change has been mandated to all Cummins distributors by Cummins, Inc. to ensure the integrity of the learning process. We regret any inconvenience that may be caused but believe the outcome is to assure that the technician is truly certified to perform repairs on the latest Cummins engines
