Entry Level Courses
Insite 7.x , BETT
This 4 day combination course is required for all technicians who wish to obtain Cummins Engine Qualification. Insite 7.x is the latest version of the electronic engine diagnostic software tool BETT, Basic Electronic Theory & Troubleshooting gives the student a good understanding of electricity and troubleshooting electronic engine controls. Technicians may split this course into two individual classes by requesting at the time of enrollment.
New Product Familiarization
This class in designed for entry level or new technicians to Cummins Engines or the diesel engine industry. Focus will be on Cummins products 2000 and newer. Topics of discussion will be engine identification, basic combustion including Cooled EGR , Exhaust After treatment, and SCR. Engine lube oil, fuel, air, and cooling systems will be discussed in depth. Hands-on will include engine tune-up and basic engine troubleshooting.
Medium Duty Engines
B+, C+, L+ Natural Gas Engine Qualification
The “Plus” engines are truly the first “fully electronic controlled alternative fueled engine” from Cummins, Westport Inc, Topics of discussion include base engine, fuel, lubricating, cooling, air, electronic controls, ignition, and Woodward Throttle systems, Emphasis is placed on the CNG/LNG fuel systems and related components., Both a written, and “hands-on: assessment is required for technician certification.
ISL-G CM2180A Cummins Engine Qualification
This course is for technicians that require warranty level repair qualification on the new Cummins CM2180A stoichiometric alternative fuel engine, Each student will be required to show competency on the electronic control, electronic ignition, stoichiometric fuel system, cooled EGR, and the three way after treatment exhaust system. Technicians will be required to complete Insite 7, BETT, and the Alternate Fuel Cummins Virtual College prior to enrolling in class. Both a written and “hands-on” assessment is required for technician certification.
ISB CM 850/ENG Engine Qualification
The ISB CM850 engine is designed to meet the EPA exhaust emissions requirements for October 2002, and replaces the previous ISB engine for the North American Automotive Market. This course will introduce technicians to “Cooled EGR”, and “High Pressure Common Rail” fuel system technology. At the conclusion of this course the student will have acquired the knowledge to describe differences between the ISB and ISB CM 850 air, cooling, fuel, and electronic control systems. Written and ‘hands-on” assessments are completed using the Cummins Virtual College program,
ISC/ISL CM850 Engine Qualification
The purpose of this course is to provide the student with information covering ISC/ISL, the CAPS fuel system, and the new “High Pressure Common Rail” fuel system. After completion of this course the student will be able to describe engine components, trace the systems flows, perform unique trouble shooting and maintenance procedures, and utilize system operation concepts. Students will be introduced to updated CAPS fuel system troubleshooting procedures and factory authorized procedures for the replacement of CAPS fuel pump modules. All assessments for this class, written and practical, are delivered using the CD-ROM based Cummins Virtual College.
ISB/ISC/ISL CM2150 Engine Qualification
The CM2150 2007 mid range engine course is designed to get all technicians, dealers and the end user up to speed on the latest product advancements. Changes for 2007 include, updated emission controls, cooled EGR, Variable Geometry Turborcharging, and updated high pressure common rail fuel system, Exhaust Aftertreatment assembly and it’s roll in the emission control is thoroughly discussed. The completion of the mid range Cummins Virtual College, Insite 7.x, a written and hands on assessments will be required for technician qualification.
ISB/ISC/ISL CM2250 Engine Qualification
This course is designed for technicians that are seeking 2010 mid range engine qualifications only. The class will cover selective Catalytic Reduction, HPCR fuel system diagnostics, and CM2250 control system operations. All students must complete Cummins Virtual College mid range engine requirements prior to attending this course.
Heavy Duty Engines
ISX CM870/EGR Engine Qualification
The ISX is improved and updated for 2003. With the new Variable Geometry Turborcharging (VGT), cooled exhaust gas recirculation, and a host of additional changes enable the new ISX to meet October 2002 emissions standards. At the conclusion of this course the student should be to successfully apply product knowledge and experience to solving virtual “hands-on” troubleshooting situations.
ISM CM876/ISX CM871 Engine Qualification
Cummins 2007 heavy duty engine qualification course is designed for technician to achieve the level of competency required to perform warranty repairs. Updated electronic controls, “smart devices”, cooled EGR, VGT turbochargers, exhaust system aftertreatment, DOC, DPF, are a small portion of class content, This is a “hands-on” class that will require students to successfully complete written as well as “hands-on” assessments. The completion of the heavy duty Cummins Virtual College, Insite 7 and BETT are required to enroll in this class
CM2250 Combination Engine Qualification
This course will qualify technicians on, ISX15, ISB 6.7, ISC 8.3 and ISL 9, CM2250 diesel engines. An intense 5 day course designed to cover, the new 2010 diesel engines, SCR systems, and the XPI high pressure common rail system. Students must be ISXCM 2150, ISBC L CM2150 qualified and have completed all CVC requirements prior to attending this course.
ISX11.9 CM2250 Engine Qualification
This course is for technicians who are ISX15 CM2250 qualified and has completed Cummins Virtual College update program #4091874. Technicians will perform a complete disassembly and reassembly of the new ISX11.9 CM2250 heavy duty diesel engine to running condition. Class will be limited to six students only, NO Exceptions. Students will spend approximately 95% of class time working on the engine.
NOW Overhaul Qualification
Warranty Decision Maker
This a required course to qualify dealer personnel to administer Cummins Warranty through the Rapidserve Warranty System. Completion of this course will ensure a good understanding of Cummins Warranty guidelines and Rapidserve procedures. Students are required to complete the Cummins Virtual College before attending Class. Please contact the Training Center for additional details.
C/L National Overhaul Warranty, NOW Qualification,
Note: This class is open to Cummins Distributor and dealer technicians only.
Cummins Inc. requires any authorized service location that wishes to perform NOW overhauls to have NOW qualified technicians. Topics of discussion include, engine disassembly, inspection cleaning, proper documentation, engine assembly, and the administration of warranty. Attending technician must be journey level and have completed Insite 7, BETT, all mid range CVC’s and have qualified on ISCC/ISL CM850 and CM2150 engines. This is a “hands-on” class and students will perform a NOW overhaul during the course.
ISX, National Overhaul Warranty, NOW Qualification
Note: This class is open to Cummins Distributor and dealer technicians only.
Cummins Inc. requires any authorized service location that wishes to perform NOW overhauls on ISX CM570, CXM870, and CM871 to have NOW qualified technicians., Topics of discussion include, engine disassembly, inspection cleaning, proper documentation, engine assembly and administration of warranty. Attending technician must be journeyman level and have completed Insite 7, BETT, all heavy duty Cummins Virtual College courses and have qualified on ISX CM570, ISX CM870 and ISX CM871 engines. This is a “hands-on” class and students will be required to perform a NOW overhaul in the class.
